New Delhi : With the urge to promote awareness about mental health among students, Modern Public School (MPS), Shalimar Bagh, in association with Solh Wellness, organises a day-long workshop for the students aged 13 and above in the school premises. The subject of this engaging workshop was “Making Mental Health a Global Priority”.

Ms Alka Kapur, Principal of Modern Public School, Dr Tarun Sehgal, Psychiatrist & Co-Founder of Solh Wellness from Australia, and Mr Kapil Gupta, Founder of Solh Wellness, were the speakers in the workshop. They highlighted the techniques to improve mental health and well-being in schools. The event was also graced by Ms Shama Soni Founder-Director, Ashhwika Foundation and Ashhwika Soni, Recreational Therapy and Development Manager, who shared their valuable insights on the various mental health challenges among preteens and teens and suggested strategies required to address these challenges.

While delivering lectures, resource personnel also emphasised the need to understand students’ emotions and enable them to share their emotional state with parents and teachers without inhibitions and communication barriers. Later, in the concluding session, they took on students’ queries, which were resolved effectively using illustrative techniques and real-life examples.

This event was the first of a series that Solh Wellness intends to hold at educational institutions (schools and colleges), businesses, and special interest groups around the nation to combat stigma and provide individuals with the tools they need to improve their mental health.

On this occasion, Alka Kapur said, “Often children and teenagers suffer from some mental health issues. Symptoms like concentration problems, cognitive issues, a lack of motivation, and anxiety negatively impact their academic growth and overall personality. But, most of the times elders fail to unearth causes, what is influencing the child’s mental development and how it should be corrected through school intervention. Additionally, since COVID, society has experienced a mental peace crisis that is impairing their development. Modern Public School and Solh Wellness have joined hands to overcome students’ mental health issues, and I hope this initiative will bring in desired changes.”
