University Of Göttingen Raises Funds For 206 Scholarships
The University of Göttingen has raised funds for 206 Deutschlandstipendiums (Germany’s scholarship for students) to run from October 2022 to September 2023. As in the previous year, this puts the University in front of other universities in Lower Saxony. Talented and dedicated students receive 300 euros per month for one year from the Stipend. The University raised half of the funds, around 740,000 euros from private sponsors. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research then contributed matched funding. Now the scholarships have been awarded in a ceremony and donors were recognised for their contributions.
This year, the University was able to acquire funding towards scholarships from private individuals, associations and companies. The 93 sponsors support students from all faculties. “We are very pleased about the continued support for our students and would like to thank all our sponsors for their commitment,” said Dr Valérie Schüller, Vice-President for Finance and Human Resources University of Göttingen, who presented the certificates.
Among the supporters are many alumni of the University, who donated amounts together enabling around 20 scholarships to be funded in total. Many companies in the region are also among the long-standing supporters. A group of German scholarship holders from the previous year collected and donated money for an entire scholarship, a total of 1,800 euros, to show their gratitude for the support that they received in the past.
Since the start of the Deutschlandstipendium in the winter semester 2011/22, the University of Göttingen has been able to award more than 1,900 scholarships.
