AMU Faculty Member addresses the Annual Women Economic Forum
Aligarh : Prof Ayesha Farooq, Department of Business Administration, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), joined the global edition of the Annual Women Economic Forum 2022, held at New Delhi, along with the G100 India meetings, as a speaker. The theme for the edition was “Bridge the Gap: Agenda for G20’.
Speaking on Aligarh Applique as a sustainable and eco-friendly craft, Prof Ayesha Farooq said, “applique work by the artisans of Aligarh is eco-friendly and sustainable in nature due to usage of natural fiber, energy efficiency, environment-friendly production process, and waste minimization. These products are reusable and biodegradable”.
“Aligarh applique craft has tremendous potential to involve women entrepreneurs and contribute towards economic, social, and environmental sustainability”, she added.
She emphasized that it has a big potential to generate gainful employment opportunities for local artisans, and constitutes an important part of the unorganized sector of the economy.
Notably, Prof Ayesha is the State President, Project and Event Management Council of Uttar Pradesh, WICCI (Women’s Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry), an arm of WEF.
