Aligarh : Dr Syed Wajahat Ali Rizvi, Assistant Professor, Institute of Ophthalmology, JNMCH, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has been awarded the IJO Platinum Award (the highest award for best publication of the year in the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology) along with other authors for their landmark multicentric study titled “Epidemiology, clinical profile, management, and outcome of COVID-19-associated rhino-orbital-cerebral mucormycosis in 2826 patients in India – Collaborative OPAI-IJO Study on Mucormycosis in COVID-19 (COSMIC), Report”.
Dr Rizvi was presented with the award certificate at the Annual Conference of All India Ophthalmological Society held at Mumbai.
According to Dr. Rizvi the study is of extreme public health importance as it gathered important information about behaviour, risk factors, and disease trends of previously rare but extremely fatal mucormycosis disease. The data collected from the study helped in laying down a standard treatment strategy across India which eventually saved thousands of lives.
