French Ambassador visits AMU

Aligarh : His Excellency Emmanuel Lenain (Ambassador of France to India) and his delegates visited Aligarh Muslim University today. Mr Ambassador and his team members were welcomed by AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor and administrative officers in the VC’s office.

The Vice – Chancellor and Ambassador discussed the scope to promote future cooperation between French Universities and AMU. VC said AMU with its interdisciplinary nature would like to join hands with eminent universities across the globe to encourage research through exchange programs and to promote educational cooperation for the benefits of students.

The University will explore all the possibilities of inter- universities collaboration and cooperation with French Universities. “Our university plays a vital role in strengthening ties of India with other countries”, he added.

The French delegation discussed the promotion of French among students in AMU and stressed the need for mooting a development and exchange programme with the Government of France for educational purposes and emphasized that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) should be drawn and signed in this regard.

The AMU officials, who attended the meeting, included Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof Mohammad Gulrez, Registrar, Mr Mohammad Imran (IPS), DSW, Prof Abdul Alim, Proctor, Prof Waseem Ali, Dean, Faculty of International Studies, Prof Jawaid Iqbal and Mr Sawan Kumar Singh, Assistant Professor, French Language Section, Department of Foreign Languages, AMU.

The Ambassador and his team comprising Ms Amal Benhagoug, Political counselor, Dr Fabien Chareix, Science and Higher Education Attaché, Ms Leah Paul, project manager and Mr Jatinder Singh, Deputy Attaché for Cooperation in Education visited the Department of Foreign Languages. He interacted with students. He delivered a talk on the topic entitled opportunities of studying in France. He shared his opinion to strengthen the social, cultural and educational exchanges. He emphasised future cooperation between France and AMU.

The programme was attended by Dr. Murad Ahmad Khan, Udai Singh Kunwar, Suhail, Yasir, Abdur Rahman Ansari and other faculty members of the Department of Foreign Languages. Mr Sawan Kumar Singh conducted the proceedings.

Prof Jawaid Iqbal Dean of FIS in his welcome address talked about the progress of the Department of Foreign Languages.

H.E. Mr. Lenain paid rich tributes to the AMU Founder, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan at his mausoleum and visited the University Mosque, Strachey Hall and the Maulana Azad Library.
