Agri scientist Dr. Anup Das takes charge as Director of ICAR-RCER Patna
Dr. Anup Das took charge as the 5th full time Director of ICAR- Research Complex for Eastern Region on 06th Feb 2023. The present tenure of Dr. Das is for five years. It may be noted that Dr. Das has been appointed to the post of Director by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, on the recommendation of the Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board (ASRB), New Delhi. On this occasion, the officers and employees of the administrative and technical cadre including all the scientists of the institute congratulated the newly appointed Director.
Dr. Das told that our institute and its centers are Farming System Research Centre for Hill and Plateau Region, Ranchi; Research Centre for Makhana, Darbhanga; Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Buxar and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ramgarh, conducting research on land and water resources management, food grains, horticulture, aquatic crops, fisheries, livestock and poultry, agro-processing and socio-economic aspects for resource-poor farmers and other stakeholders. At present our institutes are working for the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Assam and Eastern Uttar Pradesh and we are committed to mark our presence in more areas in the times to come. “Strategic and adaptive research for efficient integrated management of natural resources to enhance the productivity of agricultural production systems in the eastern region; transform low productivity-high potential eastern region into high productivity region for food, nutritional and livelihood security; utilization of seasonally waterlogged and perennial water bodies for multiple uses of water; promote network and consortia research in the eastern region, are focus of the institute,” said Dr. Das.
Dr. Das emphasized on innovation in agriculture for entrepreneurship and employment generation with the aim of enhancing farmers’ income. He also told that his priorities would be on important areas like natural and organic farming, vast rice fallow management, increasing the productivity of agriculture, access to more and more farmers and other stakeholders, working on millets, agro-climatic challenges, etc.
Earlier, Dr. Das was posted as Principal Scientist at Tripura Centre of ICAR Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region, Umiam, Meghalaya. Dr. Das has done extensive research work in the field of agricultural science and has coordinated many high level meetings and national/international seminars and has also been an awardee of national and international repute in the field of agriculture. Dr. Anup Das has done pioneering research in the field of Integrated Farming Systems (IFS), Conservation Agriculture (CA), Organic Farming, and Climate Resilient Agriculture leading to development of agro-ecosystem specific IFS models for low, mid and high altitudes, CA based production technology of rice/maize – pulses/oilseeds systems (Rice/maize fallow management), organic package of practices for 32 crops, soil health and C-stocks/sequestration potential under different land use practices for sustainable agriculture.
