Washington State University Ranked Among Top 100 U.S. Universities
Washington State University stands among the top 100 universities nationwide in the inaugural rankings from a platform keenly focused on research publications and impact.
Research.com ranked WSU 89th among more than 540 universities in the United States in its 2022 rankings and 225th among institutions of higher education worldwide.
“Our outstanding faculty, staff, students, and research partners have done a tremendous job in advancing creative activity, research, and scholarship in their respective fields,” Christopher Keane, vice president for research, said. “As a result, WSU continues to develop as a world-leading research institution and it’s exciting to see our achievements recognized nationally and internationally.”
Colleges and universities are ranked by Research.com using criteria centered on the research productivity, prestige, and impact of associated scholars. Its data is gathered from the Microsoft Academic Graph, which boasts records on scientific publications, citations, journals, conferences and fields of study, among other data.
The website identified 141 active WSU scholars, with 52 of them being designated as leading scientists in their chosen fields. Rankings.com totaled up 19,608 publications by leading scientists at WSU and a total number of citations in excess of 1.68 million. Between fiscal years 2016 and 2021, WSU has seen its National Science Foundation Higher Education Research and Development Expenditures grow from $301 million to more than $357 million. Among 655 institutions receiving NSF HERD funding, WSU ranked 78th for fiscal year 2021.
