Chaman Bhartiya School organises Kultural Sangam with Parikrama foundation to celebrate 400 Years of Indo-Danish relations

Bengaluru: Chaman Bhartiya School organised Kultutal Sangama to celebrate 400 years of Indo-Danish relations in collaboration with the Parikrama Foundation, India based-NGO, and Western Symphony Youth orchestra from Denmark. The event was graced by Thomas Sehested, Director, Danish Cultural Institute and a renowned authority on Indian culture
Kultural Sangam celebrated the historic day when Danish admiral Ove Giedde signed the lease treaty for Tranquebar with the Nayak of Thanjavur, embarking the glorious relation between the two nations. Like India, the Danish Culture Institute’s vision is that the exchange of arts, culture, and knowledge can contribute to handling the challenges of globalisation and strengthen the Sustainable Development Goals. This synergy in vision among the countries led to the inception of this international exchange program.
To mark the day, a cultural exchange between the two countries was organised, where students from the Parikrma Foundation showcased Indian culture through Classical music and the Danish youth ensemble performed European melodies.
Speaking about the event Mr Allan Andersen, Director, Chaman Bhartiya School said, “School is not separated from life. Children are citizens of the world and school is part of society. Hence it is the responsibility of the educational institution to provide platforms that drive the development of global citizenship. In line with this vision we have tied up with the Parikrama Foundation so that this international intercultural exchange drives global citizenship in the true sense of the word.”

Talking about the event, Mrs. Shukla Bose, CEO of Parikrma Foundation “We feel it is our responsibility to create 21st-century citizens. We can do that by creating a curriculum that is accepting and understanding of diverse cultures, gender equality, and global citizenship. We, therefore, look forward to such partnerships”.

The day-long event comprised of two sessions. The first session saw the visit of the Danish Youth Ensemble to the Parikrama Foundation, where the students were welcomed in a typical Indian style. The event gave a platform to the students of both countries to interact and exchange their views on sustainability. This was followed by the ensemble presenting the Symphony Orchestra and The Parikrama students performing local Kannada song, dance and a skit that showcased their thoughts about climate change. The evening session took place at the Performing Arts Pavilion in Bhartiya City. In addition to performances by the Youth ensemble and Parikrama, Apoorva Sridhar, a state award winner musician from the Kannada film industry performed.
With this initiative, Chaman Bhartiya Schools addresses the need for a cadre of citizen leaders who can play activist roles. Such global citizenship activism can take many forms, including advocating, at the local and global level, for policy and programmatic solutions that address global problems; participating in the decision-making processes of global governance organizations; adopting and promoting changes in behavior that help protect the earth’s environment; contributing to world-wide humanitarian relief efforts; and organizing events that celebrate the diversity in world music and art, culture and spiritual traditions.
Speaking about the event, Thomas Sehested, Director, Danish Cultural Institute says, “We appreciate this initiative of Chaman Bhartiya School and applaud the cultural exchange it transpired among the students. The role of cultural exchange is to ensure dialogue and continued understanding across borders, fences, and distances and help people realise how similar they are in terms of values. The rich and varied cultures of both countries have a lot to teach and such collaborative events will only encourage and strengthen the bond between the countries.”
Chaman Bhartiya School that strives to improve the quality of education in India, believes educational institutions should create such interactive platforms that will enable the development of future leaders.
