5th EDITION OF BHU PARALYMPIC GAMES KICKS OFF

Varanasi: The  5th BHU paralympic games  kicked off on Wednesday after  a gap of three years  due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. The games from 1st March, 2023 to 3rd March 2023, will witness participation of nearly 250 students in 22 sporting and extra curricular activities. A Tug of War competition was organised in the male and female category on the opening day of the games. The activities being organized as part of paralympic games, include Cricket-visual, Cricket-Ortho, Badminton, Table Tennis, Chess Ortho, Chess visual, Athletics, Carom and others.

Formally inaugurating the paralympic games, Registrar Prof. Arun Kumar Singh said that the University has taken a number of initiatives to promote sporting activities on the campus, so as to contribute in the overall development of students, as was the vision of Mahamana Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya ji. He expressed elation over the large number of participation of divyang students in the games.  Prof. S.V.S. Raju, Vice President, University Sports Board, underlined the efforts, being made by the university administration for better exposure to divyang Students as well as creating a more divyang friendly atmosphere on the campus. General Secretary of Sports Board, Prof. B.C. Kapri noted the growing success of the paralympic games in the University.  He informed that in the year 2016, when the games were launched, there were only  86 participants,  however, the number of participants has tripled in its 5th edition. Dean of Students Prof. Anupam Kumar Nema lauded the excitement and enthusiasm towards Paralympic games as heart warming. He assured that the university is committed to provide all possible support to ensure better opportunities and exposure for students Delivering the presidential address Prof. O.P. Rai, former Dean and former Chief Proctor, said  that what matters is the participation and not the victory or the loss. He called upon students to make best use of their student life and nurture themselves to become a better person and citizen. Prof. Archana Singh, Secretary, Sports Board, delivered the vote of thanks. A large number of students, teachers, officers and employees were present on the occasion.
