University of Amsterdam physicist’s textbook wins PROSE award

UvA-IoP physicist Daniel Baumann’s new textbook ‘Cosmology’ has won the PROSE Award of the Association of American Publishers. The book was selected as the best new book in the category ‘Chemistry, Physics, Astronomy and Cosmology’ and was then further selected from all category winners for the ‘Award for Excellence in Physical Sciences and Mathematics’.


Since 1976, the Association of American Publishers Awards for Professional and Scholarly Excellence (PROSE Awards) have recognized the very best in professional and scholarly publishing by celebrating the authors, editors, and publishers whose landmark works have made significant advancements in their respective fields of study. Four PROSE awards are awarded each year, for four different disciplines. Baumann’s book ‘Cosmology’ won the prize in the category Physical Sciences and Mathematics.

The book was published last year by Cambridge University Press. It is based on courses taught at Amsterdam and Cambridge, and expands on Baumann’s popular lecture notes used by students and lecturers worldwide.
