World Capital of Architecture and host of the 27th World Congress of Architects, Rio de Janeiro is the theme of a meeting at UNESCO in Paris

Throughout the year, a series of events will show the world the architectural richness of the Marvelous City
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) received last Tuesday (18), in Paris, the delegation of the Organizing Committee Rio World Capital of Architecture 2020. The Brazilian committee presented the official calendar of events already confirmed for celebrate Rio and its architecture this year.

The program officially started with the New Year’s Eve party at Copacabana Beach and already offers cariocas and tourists several cultural and academic programs, such as an exhibition on the centenary of the architect and urban planner Sergio Bernardes (1919-2002), at the National Museum of Fine Arts (MNBA); the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the Institute of Architects of Brazil (IAB); and face-to-face meetings for the elaboration of drawings of urban landscapes, promoted by the Urban Sketchers group. The events will be an opportunity to show the world the architectural wealth of the city and a great timing to reflect and debate on issues related to urban spaces, their past and their future, and the impact of architecture and urbanism in the daily lives of the population.

Recently, the city of Rio de Janeiro published a public call inviting institutions and cultural producers from Brazil and abroad to present proposals for events related to architecture, cultural heritage, landscaping, urban management and discussion about cities of the future. Entries can be made through the following link. The approved projects will receive institutional support, with the right to use the logos of the Rio World Capital of Architecture and the World Congress of Architects, in addition to a letter of support.

The city will also host the 27th World Congress of Architects, between the 19th and 23rd of July. The congress theme is “All worlds. One world. Architecture 21”. Institutions, cultural producers and professionals related to the theme are invited to submit proposals to participate in the event.
