Prof. Debashis Chatterjee Re-appointed as Director of IIM Kozhikode

Kozhikode: The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode Board of Governors (BoG), has re-appointed Prof. Debashis Chatterjee as the Director of the institute for a further period of 5 years, as per IIM Act 2017. Shri A Vellayan, Chairman BoG, IIMK made the announcement as the Board of Governors met on the eve of the 25th Annual Convocation, scheduled for April 08 (Saturday), in the Institute premises.

Announcing the re-appointment of Prof. Chatterjee, Shri A Vellayan, Chairman IIMK BoG, added “IIMK Board of Governors is delighted to have Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, continue his journey with IIM Kozhikode. I am confident that his visionary leadership and team efforts will bring more laurels to the Institute as it endeavours to breach barricades and make history globally. ”

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Chatterjee, added “Deeply humbled by the trust, faith and confidence reposed in me by the IIMK Board of Governors. I express my gratitude to the Ministry of the Education, Govt. of India, Govt of Kerala, Chairman, Members of the Board and IIMK community, for the same. The Institute has come a long way in its 26-year journey and together we aspire to go even further towards realising the Vision 2047 for an India which is not just best in the world but best for the world.”

Prof Chatterjee’s current tenure began in June 2018 after IIM Kozhikode became the first IIM to appoint its own Director autonomously after passing of the IIM Act in 2017. Prof. Chatterjee is the architect of very rapid growth of IIMK from a relatively obscure school to a globally accredited Institution of National impact. He was instrumental in admitting more than 50% women in the flagship Post Graduate Program, a feat twice achieved by IIM Kozhikode, which set of a trend among IIMs, who had only witnessed 8-10% women students in more than 50 years of existence until then.

Prof. Chatterjee has been a Senior Professor and Dean (International Relations) at IIM Lucknow and Director General of IMI Delhi. Professor Debashis Chatterjee has taught leadership classes at Harvard University and at the Indian Institutes of Management (IIM), Calcutta, Lucknow, and Kozhikode. He has been awarded the prestigious Fulbright Fellowship twice for Pre-Doctoral and Post-Doctoral work at the Harvard University. He is the author of seventeen books including Krishna – The 7th Sense, Karma Sutras, Invincible Arjuna and Timeless Leadership. He has also served as Dean of an International Business School in Singapore. A prolific author, inspirational teacher and columnist, Prof. Chatterjee also served as Independent Director on the Boards of several multinational and Indian Companies.

IIM Kozhikode since 2018 has consolidated its position as the Top 5 Management Institution in the country as per Ministry of Education’s NIRF Ranking, with a best showing of Rank #4 in 2021. This period also witnessed IIMK Kozhikode bagging the prestigious EFMD Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) Accreditation (2021) to complete a double crown of global recognition with the AMBA (UK) awarded to IIMK in 2010. IIM Kozhikode also became the only IIM (Rank 2, Non –technical CFI) to feature consequently in the prestigious Atal Innovation Rankings (ARIIA, Ministry of Education) in this period. The institute’s Post Graduate and Executive Post Graduate Programmes made their global debut in the QS Global Rankings, which is believed to be the world’s most trusted rankings. The Executive Post Graduate Programme (EPGP) is ranked 16+ in Asia-Pacific in the QS Global Executive MBA Rankings 2021. As per the QS Masters in Management Rankings 2022, the Post Graduate Programme (PGP) is among the top ten programmes in Asia. IIMK was also placed in the four Palmes of Excellence Category in the Eduniversal Global Rankings 2022. The Institute also leapfrogged 100 spots to be placed in the Top 251-300 Institutes in Business & Management Studies globally, as per the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject 2023, announced in March 2023.
