EU, UNESCO and Tajikistan’s Ministry of Education reaffirm commitment to competency-based education reform
Tajikistan has demonstrated a firm dedication to ensuring universal access to quality education, in line with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4). To help the country achieve this goal, UNESCO, with financial support from the European Union is implementing the “Competency-based, ICT-enabled, STEM education in Tajikistan 2022-2026” project.
On March 28, 2023 the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan, Abdulzoda Ziyodullo met with the representatives of the European Union and UNESCO to discuss the current state of the project. The Deputy Minister emphasized the importance of collaboration between the ministry, UNESCO, and the EU to achieve the project’s goals.
The Deputy Minister noted that the competency-based approach to education has a significant impact on students’ learning outcomes, as it emphasizes mastery of skills and knowledge rather than simply completing coursework.
The “Competency-based, ICT-enabled, STEM education in Tajikistan” project is designed to support the implementation of Tajikistan’s National Development Strategy. The expected impact is improved overall quality of education in Tajikistan in the areas of STEM, ICT, and VET.
