Following this initial meeting, Ms Phillipson was given a tour of the Institute of Education’s Learning Hub and a chance to meet with staff and students. Topics covered included primary and secondary teacher training, the Alana House project, teaching languages, and early years education.
Finally, the MP visited the Museum of English Rural Life where she met with RUSU Officers to discuss the student union’s work on education and student welfare.
Professor Van de Noort said: “It was an honour to welcome the Shadow Secretary of State for Education to the University. We welcomed the opportunity to hear more about Labour’s view on higher education funding.
“We are a centre of excellence in several areas of teacher training and we were delighted to talk to Ms Phillipson about our work. The University of Reading is also one of the oldest teacher training universities in the UK – this was a great opportunity to show what that legacy has made possible, and look to the future of education.”
