The QS World University Rankings are the most used global rankings and are a measure of a university’s global reputation.

History is now ranked at 11th in the UK, Philosophy is in the top 20, with Performing Arts in the 14th place nationally. English is now ranked at 27th in the world, with linguistics ranked 49th. Theology at Birmingham is now in the top 40 globally.

The College of Arts and Law is home to five schools, and a broad range of academic disciplines across the arts and humanities. The College offers a broad range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral study, and is home to world-renowned research institutes and centres.

This year’s rankings cover 54 academic disciplines, in each of which 1,597 universities are assessed. If the institution offers the subject and produces enough research papers it will be given a score.

From these scores, a ranking table is produced to display everything from the leading 50 to the leading 500 institutions by subject. The rankings are compiled using indicators selected to assess institutions’ international reputation in each subject area, plus research impact.
