National Science Day -2020 celebrated at Physics department
Aligarh: National Science Day-2020was celebrated by Physics Department of Aligarh Muslim University on Friday. The day is observed to remember the invention of Raman effect by Indian Physicist Sir C V Raman for which he earned Noble Prize.
Sir C V Raman was also conferred D.Sc.(honoris causa) degree by Aligarh Muslim University on 20 November 1931.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest, Prof DK Srivastava (Homi Bhabha Chair Professor, National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bengaluru, Ex Director VECC Kolkata), said he has an emotional bonding with AMU. Prof. Srivastava delivered a talk on the topic “Climate change, Development and Energy options” and also discussed the relevance of Science Day theme “Women in Science” in present scenario.
Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Akhtar Haseeb in his address said, “National Science Day is celebrated all over the country on 28th February in order to remember the invention of Raman effect by Indian Physicist , Sir CV Raman , on the same day in the year 1928 for which he was awarded the Noble Prize in Physics in 1930 and I am sure the faculty and researchers will carrying forward the scientific temper to produce more likes of Raman”.
Dean faculty of Science, Prof Qazi Mazhar Ali, emphasized on enquiry based teaching rather than conventional methods of teaching.
Prof BP Singh (Chairperson, Deptt of Physics AMU) in his welcome address gave an overview about all the activities organized by the department and its achievements.
An Annual Report-2019 along with Physics Bulletin-2020 was also released by PVC Prof Akhtar Haseeb on the occasion which contains achievements and activities carried out by the Physics Department.
On this occasion awards were given to the students for their Research Paper presentation, Poster presentation, Essay Writing Competition .The non teaching staff members were also honoured on the occasion for their services.
Dr Jai Prakash (Convener of the Program) conducted the proceedings of the program and presented achievements of the department.
