Aligarh Muslim University organised several competitions to mark Quran Day
Aligarh: The Khaleeq Ahmad Nizami Centre for Quranic Studies, Aligarh Muslim University organised several competitions to mark Quran Day. Winners were distributed prizes and certificates.
The winners include Abdullah Faizul Hasan, a student of BUMS who won first prize in the Islamic Calligraphy competition under university students’ category, while Asiya Siddiqui (B Com) and Saman Raees (PhD) won the second and third prize, respectively. In the school category, Kainat Husain (AMU Girls’ School) was judged first while Ruqayya (AMU City Girls’ School) and Rizwan (Aligarh Public School) were given second and third prize, respectively. In Madrasa category, Lubaba Mahfooz and Abu Bakr (both from Madrasa Tayyaba) were given first and second prizes respectively.
In Qirat competition, university category, Kamal Iqbal (BA Theology) and Noorullah (BA Arabic) shared the first prize while Shadab (MA) was given second prize and Ayesha Rahmat (MA) third prize.
In school category, Mohammad Ahmad (AMU City School) was judged first whereas Haris Anwar and Abdur Rahman (both from Iqra Public School) were given second and third prize. Hafiz Abdullah Rafi and Loot Fazal Abdul won the first and second prize respectively in Madrasa category.
In essay writing competition, Zainab Ghazali (BA), Sumbul Shahid (PhD English) and Mohammad Saad Khan (Pre-Tib) were given first, second and third prize, respectively, while in school category, Qari Mohammad Lateef (Saiyyid Hamid Senior Secondary School) won the first prize while Rida Fatima (Islamic Mission School) won second and Hafiz Nematullah (AMU City School) won third prize.
Consolation prizes were also given in different categories in all competitions.
Addressing on the occasion, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof Akhtar Haseeb said that reciting Quran with Qirat is a specialized art and Muslims should make effort to learn this art. He said Quran is a guiding light for human being and it carries promises of salvation for all who adhere to its guiding principles.
Director, K A Nizami Centre for Quranic Studies, Prof A R Kidwai highlighted the importance of observing Quran Day which aims at inculcating habit of reading Quran among the young generation.
Dr M Aiyoob Akram conducted the programme while Dr Gauhar Qadir Wani proposed a vote of thanks.
