Consortium of Higher Educational Institutions (CHEI) launched to implement NEP 2020 in true spirit
Seven higher education institutes in the Malwa region sign an MoU to accelerate research, innovation and introduce new-age education programmes
Bathinda : The Consortium for Higher Educational Institutions (CHEI) is launched to implement the New Education Policy (NEP-2020) in true spirit with the mandate to develop, explain, and advance the research contributions to improve higher education and serve the local community. This consortium will focus on the advancement of knowledge-based enterprises, promote appropriate technical and management skills for future technology development, information exchange, and work towards effective research institution-academic partnerships for human resource development.
This consortium includes the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), Bathinda; Central University of Punjab (CUP), Bathinda; Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda; Adesh University, Bathinda;, Baba Farid Group of Institutions (BFGI), Bathinda; Akal University, Talwandi Sabo; and Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo.
The high-level meeting of the Consortium of Higher Education for signing the MoU was held at MRSPTU on Saturday, which was attended by Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Punjab; Prof. Dinesh K Singh, Executive Director, AIIMS Bathinda; Prof. Buta Singh Sidhu, Vice Chancellor, MRSPTU; Prof. S.K. Bawa, Vice Chancellor, Guru Kashi University; Prof. Gurmail Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Akal University; Sh. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, Chairman, Baba Farid Group of Institutions; and officials of Adesh University, Bathinda.
The idea of a Consortium of Higher Education Institutions was conceptualised by CUPB Vice Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari. He has conducted several meetings with the heads of HEIs in the Malwa region to convey the need and importance of this consortium to provide 21st century educational opportunities to the students.
The programme commenced with the welcome address by MRSPTU V-C Prof. Buta Singh Sidhu. He stated that the scope of this MoU is to utilise the expertise of different HEIs in this region to provide quality education to students in the field and conduct multidisciplinary research through joint collaboration. He mentioned that the success of this consortium will be ensured by the dedicated efforts of all members. The objective designed under this Consortium for Higher Educational Institutions will be implemented with the help of a Joint Working Committee, wherein two members from each HEI will regularly meet and design future courses of action.
Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, V-C, CUPB, mentioned that the evolution of new technologies, changing industry requirements, and introduction of ICT in education have changed the dynamics of education and research. This has forced HEI to rethink and introduce new age skill development programmes catering to 21st century requirements. He added that this consortium will act as a platform for HEIs in this region to offer joint degree/diploma/certificate courses; share infrastructure, equipment, libraries, and other resources with members; conduct joint research and training programmes; and promote faculty-student exchange. Prof. Tiwari emphasized that this Consortium for Higher Educational Institutions will provide an opportunity for all HEIs to collaborate together to introduce joint degree programmes and conduct multidisciplinary research in line with the NEP2020 vision. Under this MoU, all member HEIs will work on a sharing of resources model to develop the professional and research competencies of young people.
Prof. D. K. Singh, Executive Director, AIIMS, Bathinda, emphasised that the active participation of all member institutions will be key to making this MoU a success. He also mentioned that the broader goal of this Consortium is to put forth collaborative efforts to address the environmental and health issues of this region and find meaningful solutions to problems in society through joint research. Members of other HEIs expressed their willingness to put forth determined efforts to actualize the vision and mission of this MoU.
On this occasion, Dr. Gurinder Pal Singh Brar (Registrar, MRSPTU), Prof. B.P. Garg (Registrar, CUPB), Prof. Anjana Munshi (Director Research & Development Cell, CUPB), Dr. Ashish Bald (Dean, Research & Development, MRSPTU); Dr. Kawaljit Singh Sandhu (Dean, Academic Affair, MRSPTU), Dr. Zaved Ahmed Khan (Dean, Faculty of Sciences, BFGI); Prof. Sukhjeet S. Dhindsa (Registrar, Akal University); Prof. P.S. Aulakh (Pro VC, Guru Kashi University) and officials were also present.
