University Of Massachusetts Amherst Grad Programs Get National Distinction In 2024 U.S. News And World Report Rankings

Graduate programs in several disciplines at the University of Massachusetts Amherst rank among the best in the country as reported in the new 2023-24 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s Best Graduate Schools.

Each year, U.S. News ranks ranks more than 800 institutions with a variety of graduate programs in six prominent fields: business, nursing, engineering, education, law and medicine. In addition, rankings are published periodically for a selection of other disciplines; this year, new rankings were published for public affairs, public health and doctoral programs in the science fields of math, computer science, chemistry, earth sciences and physics.

The UMass Amherst rankings for 2023-24 include:

The Manning College of Information and Computer Sciences ranks 24th and also ranks in most of the sub-specialties: artificial intelligence at 15th, programming language at 22nd and systems at 17th.

The School of Public Health and Health Sciences is ranked 43rd.

The School of Public Policy is now at No. 46 for graduate studies in public affairs, up from No. 56 last year.

The College of Engineering is ranked at 55th, up from 57th in 2022. Rankings published for specialty areas in the College of Engineering include chemical engineering at 34; civil at 47; computer at 44; electrical/electronic/communications at 49; environmental/environmental health at 39; industrial/manufacturing/systems at 38; material at 57; mechanical at 61; and biomedical at 79.

The College of Education is ranked 83rd.

The Isenberg School of Management’s full-time MBA program is ranked at No. 86 and the part-time MBA program is ranked at 47th. This year’s methodology placed an increased weight on placement success at graduation.

Several programs in the natural sciences are ranked again after being ranked last year, including: chemistry at 51st; geology/earth sciences: 47th; mathematics: 55th; and physics: 55th.

In the natural and life sciences—biological sciences at 74, biostatistics at 31 and psychology and statistics both at 51.

Fine arts at 89.

In the social sciences and humanities—English at 41, history at 48, political science at 56, economics at 79, and sociology at 29, with the sex and gender studies program ranked 8th.

In health—audiology at 26, speech language pathology at 45, and clinical psychology at 50.
