King’s College London Professor receives the FENS-EJN Award 2024
The Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS) and European Journal of Neuroscience (EJN) have announced Professor Oscar Marín as recipient of the FENS-EJN Award 2024 for his outstanding scientific work in neuroscience.
Oscar Marín, Professor of Neuroscience at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) at King’s College London, was announced winner of the FENS-EJN Award 2024 today. The award recognises outstanding scientific work in neuroscience conducted by a European researcher or researcher in a European research institution.
I am thrilled and honoured to receive the FENS-EJN Award 2024. This prize is a testament to the passion and hard work of present and past members of our laboratory, as well as the invaluable contributions of our many collaborators around the world. This outstanding recognition from the organisation that represents the European neuroscience community is particularly encouraging. We look forward to continuing our efforts to unravel the mysteries of the brain and improve the lives of people affected by neurological and psychiatric conditions.
– Professor Oscar Marín, Professor of Neuroscience at King’s IoPPN
Professor Marín is the Director of the MRC Centre for Neurodevelopmental Disorders and Director of the Centre for Developmental Neurobiology. He is a Member of the European Molecular Biology Organization, a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Science, and a Fellow of the Royal Society.
He has made great contributions to the field of neuroscience with his influential research in brain development. His work has led to the revision of concepts deeply rooted in textbooks regarding the origin and migration of neurons. His discoveries have transformed our understanding of the mechanisms controlling the organisation of the cerebral cortex and illuminate current research on the cause of neurodevelopmental disorders such as schizophrenia and autism spectrum disorders.
Professor Marín’s association with FENS has been going over many years, with him receiving the FENS-EJN Young Investigator Prize in 2012. He will be receiving the award in person during the FENS Forum 2024 in Vienna (25 -29 June 2024), where he will give a special lecture.
Professor Oscar Marín’s groundbreaking research has revolutionised our understanding of the cerebral cortex development, renovated views on the origin of neuropsychiatric disorders and introduced innovative concepts with transformative impact. Professor Marín’s seminal work is an example of outstanding scientific inquiry and discovery. FENS and EJN are delighted to recognise his research through this well-deserved distinction. Join us in congratulating Professor Marín during the FENS Forum 2024 from 25-29 June 2024 in Vienna, Austria!
– FENS and the EJN
Founded in 1998 at the first Forum of European Neuroscience, FENS is the main organisation for neuroscience in Europe. FENS currently represents 44 national and single-discipline neuroscience societies across 33 European countries and more than 22,000 member scientists. The EJN is the official journal of FENS. It supports authors worldwide in helping to maximise the impact and discoverability of important research. The FENS-EJN Award is given biennially and includes the prize of £10,000 sponsored by the EJN publisher, Wiley.
