End-session programme held
ALIGARH : Dr. Justice Kauser Edappagath, Judge, Kerala High Court visited the Aligarh Muslim University Malappuram Centre and attended as the chief guest, the end-session celebratory programme organized by the Legal Aid Clinic, Department of Law.
In his address, Justice Edappagath highlighted the role of such clinics in ensuring access of the marginalized and underprivileged sections of society to justice system. He stressed that justice should not be a privilege limited to the affluent class; it is a fundamental right of every citizen and legal aid clinics bridge the gap and ensure equal opportunities for all.
Justice Edappagath urged the young lawyers to spend time for outreach programmes, while committing to their professional achievements. He called upon them to cultivate strong work ethics and a deep sense of responsibility towards the nation and the legal system. He emphasized the philosophy of Basic Structure, which mandates access to justice for one and all according to the Article 39 (A), and highlighted that Articles 14 and 21 make it obligatory for the state to ensure equal opportunity for all to gain justice.
In his presidential remarks, Dr. Naseema P.K. said, “In a world where you are unequally treated and harassed, you cannot breath equality. Legal Aid Cell is a mandate instrument to instill the compassionate role of a lawyer. The profession will not be genuine otherwise. Legal Aid Clinic stands for opening the minds and the students that work in it are not shorter than soldiers who work for greater social change.”
Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. Shahnawaz Ahmad Malik (Director in-Charge and Coordinator Department of Law) highlighted the achievements of the department.
Dr. Shaista Nasreen presented a brief report of the services done by the legal aid clinic.
Mr. Mohsin Chauhan (Student Convener) conducted the programme, while Ms. Sidra Fatima extended the vote of thanks.
