Rice University students honoured with Doerr Leader Impact Award

The Doerr Institute for New Leaders recently named Alex Han and Zac Andrews as the winners of the first Doerr Leader Impact Award for their dynamic and innovative work in community leadership.

Their winning idea was to develop an improved system for data analysis in the nonprofit sector, which sparked Biokind Analytics, a 501(c)(3) organization formed with the goal of helping health care nonprofits further their impact.

Launched this year, the Doerr Leader Impact Award recognizes Rice students university-wide who are growing their leadership capacity and courageously changing their local or global community in an impactful, ethical and inclusive way, with measurable results.

“It is such an inspiration to see what our Owls are doing and an honor to be able to support amazing students in their leadership journeys,” said Stefanie Johnson, director of the Doerr Institute. “I cannot even imagine all of the other great things this team will accomplish in their lives.”

Doerr recognized five finalists and awarded one student group based on video and essay submissions that highlighted their local, national or global initiative. The winners will receive $1,000 and one year of executive leadership coaching (12 one-hour sessions).
