Northwestern University community invited to participate in inauguration events
Northwestern students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends are invited to participate in events commemorating the inauguration of President Michael H. Schill May 30 to June 2.
The official inauguration ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 2, at Ryan Fieldhouse’s Wilson Field on the Evanston campus. The registration deadline to attend the ceremony in person has passed; all members of the Northwestern community are invited to livestream the ceremony from the official inauguration website.
Following the ceremony, students, faculty and staff are invited to join an in-person campus community celebration at 2 p.m. on the East Lawn of Norris University Center.
In the days prior to the inauguration ceremony and reception, two events will commemorate the historic occasion with academic panel discussions.
“The New Frontiers of Biomedical Science and Biomedical Engineering” is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30.
“Free Expression, Academic Freedom, and Higher Education” is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 1.
The registration deadline to attend the panels in person has passed. Livestreams of the two panel discussions, along with the inauguration ceremony, will be available on the inauguration website.
President Schill, who also serves as a professor in the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law and the Kellogg School of Management, is a nationally recognized expert in property, real estate, and housing law and policy. As a first‐generation college graduate, Schill is a champion of higher education and its power to transform lives. He has been a leader in efforts to support student access and success, enhance academic and research excellence, improve inclusion and diversity, and provide an outstanding campus experience.
After being announced Northwestern’s new president, he took office on Sept. 12, 2022, succeeding President Emeritus Morton Schapiro, who had served as the University’s 16th president from 2009 until last year.
