Jammu and Kashmir: GDC Ramgarh organises Symposium on World Bicycle Day

 

SAMBA : The NSS Unit ‘Prabha’, of Government Degree College, Ramgarh, organized a symposium to mark the ‘World Bicycle Day’ on the theme ‘Benefits of Bicycle.’ The event was held under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and organized under the supervision of Prof. (Dr.) Geetanjali Andotra, Principal of the College.

Addressing the students, the principal said that the ‘World Bicycle Day’ is celebrated every year on the 3rd day of June. The day aims at developing a culture of cycling for basic transportation, commutation and strengthening physical and mental health and lowering global warming.

A large number of students of the college participated in the symposium and expressed their views on the benefits of cycling, which proves to be a good form of physical activity, besides a means of transportation.

The participants threw light on the physical activities or exercises, which are important if one seeks to stay fit and healthy. Regular physical activities can improve the quality of life; reduce the risk of obesity, heart diseases, cancer, mental illness, diabetes and arthritis. Riding a bicycle regularly is one of the best ways to reduce the risk of health problems associated with a sedentary lifestyle and its use is environment friendly as it adds no emissions to the surroundings.

Dr. Shamsher Lal, NSS Programme Officer, briefed the participants about the proceedings of the competition. Dr. Aditi Khajuria, Prof. Seema Sharma, and Dr. Shamsher Lal were present on the occasion.
