Painting competition held to celebrate India’s #G20 presidency

ALIGARH : The Department of Linguistics, Aligarh Muslim University organized a painting competition and prize distribution event under the G-20 series of programmes, celebrating India’s G20 presidency.

Soumya Abidi (Research Scholar) won the first prize in the painting competition on the G20 theme “One Earth, One Family, One Future” which translates the message of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’. Afshan Siddiqui (MA) got the second prize, while Mitali Varshney and Abdul Muneem Khan (MA students) shared the third prize.

Addressing the prize distribution event, Prof M J Warsi, Chairperson, Department of Linguistics said G20 plays an important role in shaping and strengthening global architecture and governance on all major international economic issues. He said that the members of the G20 group represent around 85 per cent of the global GDP, over 75 per cent of the global trade, and about two-thirds of the world population.

Meanwhile, the Department of Economics organized a series of programme to observe the World Environment Day marking the LiFE Mission under G20 and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiatives.

Prof Mohd. Abdus Salam, Chairman of the department said that a range of events, including a LiFE Pledge taking ceremony, screening of a documentary film on environment, an outreach programme and four online competitions in essay writing, poster making, slogan writing and photography were organized and the winners of the competitions were felicitated with about 100 prizes at a prize distribution ceremony.

The College of Nursing also held a programme to mark the environment day and the Principal of the College administered a pledge for conserving the environment and save it from life threatening pollutants.
