Women’s day observed at Aligarh Muslim University

Aligarh: Prof Anees Ahmad, Chairperson, Department of Community Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University urged women to wake up against female foeticide and other kind of gender bias prevalent in society. He said women should stand up against all kinds of inequalities on gender basis and work for their empowerment by bringing a positive change in their behaviour towards availability of health facilities.

He was addressing a programme held at the Rural Health Training Centre, Jawan to mark the international women’s day. Explained the theme of the women’s day 2020, “I am generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Right”, he urged the community health workers to provide counseling to women in rural areas on various gender-sensitive issues and help them assert equality for all.

Dr Tabassum Nawab said it was essential to address women’s health issues especially related to their sexual and reproductive health. He said bringing a change in their attitude towards using contraceptives was an important step for ensuring rights of women and the RHTC was working actively to achieve the goal.

Junior resident Dr Danish and intern Dr Farhat Bari counseled community members on how to ensure gender equality at home and since childhood. Intern Dr Faiz spoke on the importance of women’s education.

Intern Dr Himanshu informed villagers about “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Abhiyan” and how it promoted gender equality. Dr Fatima Qaiser Naqvi emphasized on women empowerment through opportunities for higher education and equal job opportunities.
