International Yoga Day celebrated at AMU with great enthusiasm
ALIGARH : The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) teachers, students, officials, and a host of participants from other institutions and society attended the grand 9th International Yoga Day (IYD) celebrations organized by the Department of Physical Education at its lawns today.
More than 1000 participants, including 43 students from Madrasas, joined the event with unwavering zeal, meticulously adhering to the protocols outlined by the Ministry of Education and AYUSH. A class VII student of the ABK High School (Girls), Urooj Mudassir, expertly demonstrated various Asanas of Yoga, inspiring the participants to learn the synchronization between the body and the mind.
In his inaugural address, the AMU Vice Chancellor and Director, University’s International Yoga Day (IYD) celebrations, Prof Mohammad Gulrez lauded the efforts of the organizers for organizing the event on a large scale, which also marked the culmination of a year-long Akhand Yoga Karyashala (AYK).
The Vice-Chancellor urged the participants to make Yoga a part of everyday life for complete wellness and spiritual contentment. He said Yoga helps improve body strength and boosts the immune system.
He felicitated the participants of Akhand Yoga Karyashala with shawl and memento, including Mr Ajay Kumar Agarwal, Mr Kamal Kumar Gupta, Mr Vimal Batra, Mr Hifzur Rehman, Mr Umesh Kumar, Mr Pankaj Gupta, Mrs Radha Gupta, Mr Rimpy Kumar, Mrs Praveen Gupta, Mr Mohd Zahid Saifi, Mrs Meenal Bhatia and Mrs Zeba Khatoon, who served as the Yoga Yodha.
In his address, the guest of honour and Registrar, Mr Mohd Imran (IPS) exhorted the participants to prioritize physical activity on a regular basis, for their physical and mental well-being and contribute to the university and the nation.
Prof Mirza Asmer Beg, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, underlined the importance of Yoga in maintaining a composed personality with good physical and mental health. He also felicitated the participants of the Akhand Yoga Karyashala AYK.
Earlier, welcoming the guests and participants, Prof Syed Tariq Murtaza, the Chairman of the department and the Organizing Secretary, IYD said that the Yoga Day celebrations left an indelible impact on the university fraternity, promoting physical well-being, fostering mental harmony and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of India.
He said the event is a testimony to the university’s steadfast commitment to cultivating a healthy and balanced lifestyle among its students and teachers.
AMU Proctor, Prof Syed Wasim Ali felicitated Urooj Mudassir for her spectacular Yoga performance.
The yoga sessions were skillfully conducted by expert demonstrators, Mr Dharmendra Kumar, Mr. Vivek Prakash Singh and Korimanyu Abdur Rehman, who adeptly guided participants through various poses and techniques. Prof Brij Bhushan Singh led a meditation session aimed at promoting mental focus and spiritual contentment.
Prof Brij Bhushan Singh extended a vote of thanks, while the PhD scholars, Junaid Ahmad Parray and Shivani Singh conducted the programme.
