ADMIN REFORMS: BHU IMPLEMENTS DIGITAL LIFE CERTIFICATE FACILITY FOR PENSIONERS
VARANASI : On course of reforming its administrative and financial machinery to make it more effective, responsive and people friendly, Banaras Hindu University has implemented another measure aimed at benefiting its over 6000 pensioners. The university has introduced the digital Life Certificate facility with immediate effect. The service will enable pensioners of the university to submit their life certificate online from anywhere in the world. Currently the submission of a Life Certificate, which is mandatory every year, is done either through the Bank or physically appearing in the Pension Section of BHU. As most of the pensioners are located in different parts of the country and some of them even abroad, submitting Life Certificates physically becomes a challenging task for many of them. In order to mitigate the hardship faced by the pensioners, the University decided to introduce the facility through ‘Jeevan Pramaan Portal’ based on Aadhar Biometric Authentication. Pensioners will be required to register themselves through the National Informatics Center (NIC) Portal www.jeevanpramaan.gov.in and fill their banking, contact, biometrics like fingerprint or iris and other important details to activate the service. The portal then uses the Aadhaar platform for on-line biometric authentication. Once the authentication is done the pensioner receives an acknowledgement in form of SMS and Jeevan Pramaan Certification ID. These certificates may be provided to the Pension Disbursing Authority without any manual intervention.
The family / dependent pensioners, who are required to submit ‘unmarried’ or unemployed’ certificates along with the Life certificate, will have to follow the conventional mode for submitting the same to the Pension Disbursing Authority.
Finance Officer Dr. Abhay Kumar Thakur said that the move is in line with the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sudhir Kumar Jain’s resolve to make processes simpler and people friendly in order to ensure smooth delivery of services. Dr. Thakur exuded confidence that the facility will prove to be a milestone in the area of e-governance in the University system.
It is to be noted that Banaras Hindu University is among the handful of the Higher Educational Institutions of the country to have started the facility.
