SRINAGAR : The Directorate of Economics & Statistics (DE&S), J&K organized the 17th Statistics Day celebrations at Regional level, in the meeting Hall of Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Bemina Srinagar.

The event is organized every year in the memory of late Prof: P. C. Mahalanobis. The Theme of this year’s Statistical Day was “Alignment of State Indicator Framework with National Indicator Framework for Monitoring Sustainable Development Goals”.

Athar Hussain Qadir, Director General, Regional Directorate E&S Kashmir in his inaugural address welcomed all the guests/ participants.

The Regional Director General highlighted the importance of the day and threw light on the theme under the perspective of the statistical approach.

Seminars/lectures/ Debates & Quiz competition were the limelight of the event and series of PPTs were presented by Inamul Haq, Deputy Director DES Kashmir; Mudasir Ahmad, Assistant Director, SEAS, Srinagar and other participants among the Trainees of the SAES, Srinagar.

The Statistics day was attended by G. A Qureshi, Ex-Director General E&S, who delivered an extensive lecture regarding the significance of the day and significance of Statistics in formulating the process & programmes for the welfare of the society.

He made a special emphasis on the role of SDG and its impact on poverty, hunger and safeguarding the climatic change which has posed a threat for humanity.

The Event was also attended by Reyaz Ahmad Ramshoo, Director (Evaluation) DES, Kashmir; Gh. Mohd Dar, Deputy Director, DES Kashmir, and other offices/ officials of Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Kashmir, Regional Directorate Kashmir and School of Applied Economics & Statistics Srinagar.

Later, awards were distributed among the groups of Trainees of SAES, Srinagar who performed well in the Quiz programmes.
