Thirteen technology innovators join the Climate Innovation Platform
Supported by HSBC UK and delivered by the University of Birmingham in partnership with Energy Systems Catapult, the CIP programme provides the SME’s with tailored packages of support to drive the commercialisation of innovative energy products and services.
Businesses on the third cohort of the CIP programme stem from a diverse range of industry sectors, including a production company, sporting goods manufacturer and software companies.
The Climate Innovation Platform is a fantastic opportunity for Furbnow to continue our growth. The unique expertise in CIP across energy and business growth alongside access to a network of partners makes it a great home for SMEs in this sector to accelerate their development. We’ll be focusing on developing new partnerships and validating our customer proposition with support from ESC and UoB.

Luisa Orsini, CEO and Co-Founder of Daphne Water Solutions said: “I joined the CIP programme to accelerate the commercialisation of Daphne Water Solutions. I am looking forward to engaging with sector specialists, personalised coaching and like-minded entrepreneurs that believe in a green future.”
Each of the businesses enrolled onto the CIP programme will have access to; business engagement, acceleration and incubation support; start‐up mentoring; market research reports; funding and investor opportunities; advice on regulations; a dedicated support team as well as incubation space at Tyseley Energy Park.
Commenting on the new cohort, Debbie Smith, CIP Incubation Manager said: It has been a pleasure to launch the third cohort for the Climate Innovation Platform and welcome a further 13 innovative SMEs on to the programme. We have made a real difference to the 28 businesses we supported on our previous cohorts and I am really excited to see what these innovators will achieve with the tailored support we are able to offer.
Over a recent two-day induction launch event the SMEs were given a taster of the tailored support available to them throughout the programme and had an opportunity to:
present their business elevator pitches to a panel of investors
attend private surgery sessions to discuss the needs and challenges of their individual business
hear from alumni of CIP cohorts one and two
tour the incubation space and wider Tyseley Energy Park site
When asked about the recent launch event, Mark Alderson, Managing Director at First Editions said: “First Editions is delighted to join the Climate Innovation Platform – cohort three. The launch event provided an invaluable opportunity to not only learn more about the support available through the University of Birmingham, Energy Systems Catapult and Tyseley Energy Park, but network with other like-minded SMEs committed to sustainability. First Editions will utilise the resources and mentorship available through the programme to support business objectives and upcoming projects, including our roadmap to achieve net zero and new product development.
