Ural Federal University participates in Russia-Africa Summit

On July 26-27, the RUDN University, with the support of Rosatom, hosted the International Youth Forum “Russia-Africa: Nuclear Education as a Potential for Successful Development of the Region”. Sabina Smetanovskaya, the head of the Student Organization of the United Nations of the Ural Federal University, spoke at one of the sessions.

The purpose of the forum was to expand the areas of cooperation between Russian and African youth in the field of nuclear education, development of industrial partnership as a resource for solving social and economic problems in the countries of the African continent. The Forum regularly gathers representatives of diplomatic missions of African countries in the Russian Federation, state authorities, Russian and foreign universities, industrial partners, public organizations of Russia and African countries. Igor Zhukovsky, Head of the Competence Centers Project of the Presidential Platform “Russia – Land of Opportunity” (ANO), was invited to moderate one of the sessions.

“Representatives of many universities, including the core universities of Rosatom – UrFU, Moscow Power Engineering Institute – participated in our section. Speakers of the section, representatives of Russia and African countries emphasized the importance of developing direct interaction between youth and public organizations. The existing experience of Russian universities, development institutes and organizations of the youth policy ecosystem can be used to develop scientific, educational and public cooperation. In addition, Issa Shabo, Chairman of the Association of Foreign Students of Russia, with whom we led the section, supported the idea of maximum participation of foreign students in projects and competitions of the “Russia – Land of Opportunity” presidential platform, including the “Competence Centers” project,” said Igor Zhukovsky, moderator of the Youth/Social Movements and Organizations section.

According to Zhukovsky, the section resulted in specific proposals to be included in the Declaration, based on the results of the Forum as a whole.

“It was a great honor for me to present the experience of the UrFU Student Organization of the United Nations in the development of social, cultural and scientific-educational relations with students from African countries. Our university pays special attention to the development of international relations, we have developed interesting practices and solutions that can be used in other universities. We are always open to cooperation and will be glad to contribute to the development of relations between student and youth organizations of Russia and African countries,” says Sabina Smetanovskaya.
