International Literacy Day observed at AMU

ALIGARH  : “There has been a considerable increase in the literacy rate in the country and today about 74 percent people are educated. However, better efforts are needed to be made to spread literacy in the parts of the country which are still lagging behind due to various reasons”, said the AMU Registrar, Mohammad Imran (IPS) while addressing a programme organized by the Centre for Adult and Continuing Education and Extension to mark the International Literacy Day.

He stated that after the advent of digitization in the country, the financial literacy rate has grown and the even the rural people are making transaction through digital means. He said the transaction process has also become much easier and all credits go to digital literacy that today business is being done through various digital media.

“Being educated leads to empowerment and the adult education center is doing a noble service to educate people of Aligarh and nearby villages”, he added.

Prof Naima Gulrez, Principal, Women’s College, said that for the development of the country and the family, it is necessary for women to be educated. She said that if the mother is educated then the forthcoming generations will also be educated.

Dean, Students’ Welfare, Prof. Abdul Aleem said that the university administration will provide full support in the development of the schools being run by the Adult Education Centre.

Earlier, welcoming the guests, the Director of the Center, Dr. Shamim Akhtar said that education brings tolerance and the sense of love and brotherhood arises only through education. He said that an educated society is an asset for a nation.

The program was conducted by Mr Mohammad Ayyub Shabaab and vote of thanks was extended by Mujahida.
