Workshop Outcome-Based Education Explores Transformative Paradigms in HE
Aligarh : The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at Aligarh Muslim University hosted a one-day workshop titled “Outcome-Based Education (OBE)” in the Light of National Education Policy 2020. This significant event took place at the Conference Hall, offering a platform for AMU educators, administrators, and policymakers to delve into the intricacies of OBE. The workshop shed light on the pivotal role of OBE in annual assessments for accreditation and how cumulative five-year performance will determine the outcome and ranking of institutions under NAAC and NIRF.
The Chief Guest, Prof. DP Agarwal, former Chairman of UPSC and an AMU alumnus, emphasized the transformative impact of NEP 2020 on the education sector. He underscored the importance of Outcome-Based Education, which prioritizes learning outcomes, skill development, and holistic education. Prof. Agarwal expressed his excitement about returning to his alma mater and stressed the significance of annual quality assurance reports in determining institutional rankings. He encouraged faculty members to regularly update their academic work, research, and promote entrepreneurship, innovation, and start-ups within the public domain. Prof. Agarwal’s keynote address delved into OBE, including Blooms taxonomy and outcome-based paper setting.
AMU Vice Chancellor Prof Mohammad Gulrez , in his address, issued a challenge to the faculty: “Please Accept the Challenge of achieving nothing less than an A++ Grade in the upcoming NAAC cycle.” He stressed the importance of data analysis, sustainability, and outcome-oriented approaches, while also acknowledging the shift towards yearly quality assurance assessments.
Prof. Urmila A Patil, the Guest of Honour, delivered an enlightening lecture on writing skills for Program Outcomes (PO), Program Specific Outcomes (PSO), and Course Outcomes (CO), along with their mapping. She provided a detailed analysis of OBE and conducted an exercise-based session on continuous improvement.
Prof. Asad U Khan, Director IQAC and Convener of workshop at AMU, expressed the belief that the Outcome-Based Education is at the forefront of educational reform in alignment with the National Education Policy 2020. Dr. Riaz, in his closing remarks, emphasized that the workshop served as a knowledge-sharing platform, equipping AMU educators with the tools and knowledge necessary for successful OBE implementation.
The workshop attracted educators, administrators, and curriculum developers who benefited from key highlights such as exploring the principles and advantages of OBE, practical guidance on curriculum development, and the critical task of mapping learning outcomes. Participants also gained insights into effective assessment and evaluation strategies within the OBE framework. Additionally, the event fostered discussions on aligning OBE with NEP-2020 goals, providing practical insights into policy implications.
In the beginning, a tree planting campaign’s inauguration took place, led by the Chief Guest, Vice Chancellor, and Guest of Honor. The event was overseen by Ms. Absar Talat, a Research Scholar.
