UrFU Continues Advancing Nuclear Medicine in the Region
On July 11, on the sidelines of the Innoprom-2023 international exhibition Evgeny Kuyvashev, the governor of the Sverdlovsk Region, signed a cooperation agreement on the development of nuclear medicine in the region between the Government of the Sverdlovsk Region, the Ural Federal University, and the Sverdlovsk Regional Oncological Dispensary.
The agreement will serve as the basis for the implementation of a project to develop and introduce a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals into medical practice in the Sverdlovsk region and to create a scientific and educational center “Nuclear Medicine” with the participation of UrFU, the Sverdlovsk Regional Oncological Dispensary, and the Ural State Medical University. The project envisages the creation of a scientific and educational space for research and personnel training, as well as the production of more than 10 types of radionuclide pharmaceuticals for the diagnosis and treatment of oncological and cardiovascular diseases on the basis of UrFU.
In addition, the use of local production facilities and resources of the Sverdlovsk region will improve the quality and reduce the cost of these diagnostic and treatment methods, thus bringing medical care closer to the population.
According to the roadmap, by August 2024 the Sverdlovsk Regional Oncological Dispensary near UrFU will have a Positron Emission Tomography (PET) diagnostics center, and the Ural State Medical University will be involved in organizing training and education of medical personnel.
The agreement was developed in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of the Sverdlovsk region and is in line with the goals of the national “Healthcare” project.
“The signed agreement will help accelerate the development of nuclear medicine in the region,” Victor Koksharov notes. – Success here is possible only through close cooperation with the authorities, medical institutions and scientific centers. Nuclear medicine makes it possible to provide high-quality diagnostics and reduce mortality from oncological diseases. The university has modern equipment and expertise in this field. The issue of training of relevant personnel is also very important, and here our university is ready to play a decisive role”.
We would like to add that the agreement was signed by Victor Koksharov on behalf of UrFU and Boris Meilakh, Chief Physician of the Oncology Dispensary, on behalf of the Oncology Dispensary.
Foreign partners are already interested in cooperation in this industry.
