Doon School Celebrates Pandharpur’s Heritage with Spectacular Showcase of ‘Vitthala Kshetra’

Dehradun : The Doon School, in collaboration with Dr. Usha RK, presented the ‘Vitthala Kshetra’ program, offering a mesmerizing journey into the rich heritage of Pandharpur, Maharashtra. The event, held within the premises of Doon School, skillfully blended architectural insights and expressive dance forms to bring alive the cultural tapestry of Pandharpur.

The show, conceptualized and compered by Dr. Usha RK, Former Director of the Cultural Centre at the Embassy of India in Moscow and Member Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, New Delhi, commenced with a captivating talk by Apoorva Goyal. An esteemed speaker, Apoorva delved into the heritage and architectural marvels of the Shri Vitthal Rukmini Mandir. Apoorva beautifully illuminated the tapestry of diversity in our nation, where the historic timeline intertwines seamlessly. Just as Lord Vitthala unites hearts, the devotion echoes through Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and beyond—a testament to the cultural richness that binds us all.

Highlighting the artistic aspect of the event, the audience was treated to a mesmerizing Bharatnatyam presentation titled ‘Vitthala Panduranga.’ Arundhati Patwardhan, a graceful performer from Pune, skillfully depicted the enchanting journey of a devotee, moving from self-surrender to self-realization. With immense devotion and love in his eyes, the devotee yearns to meet his lord, embodying the essence of Sant Tukaram’s Abhangas.

Pandharpur, renowned as one of India’s crucial Hindu pilgrimage sites, is home to the illustrious Vithoba temple, dedicated to Lord Krishna and Rukmini. Constructed by King Vishnuvardhana of the Hoysala Empire between 1108-1152 CE, the temple stands as a testament to the rich cultural heritage of Maharashtra.

The Principal of The Doon School, Jagpreet Singh said, “Through ‘Vitthala Kshetra,’ The Doon School is honored to celebrate the vibrant heritage of Pandharpur. This event not only educates our students about the architectural marvels but also immerses them in the cultural richness that defines our diverse nation.”

He further added, “I am speechless to see this mesmerizing performance. On this special day of Dhanteras, this will stay with you for the rest of your lives. I thank Usha RK and the performers; your performance has touched every soul. Apoorva, thank you for creating the ambience.”

Speaking in the occasion, Dr. Usha RK said, “The ‘Vitthala Kshetra’ program is a testament to the power of art and culture in preserving and promoting our heritage.
