NSS Unit inaugurated at AMU Malappuram Centre

 

ALIGARH  : Mr Najeeb Kathapuram, Member Legislative Assembly, Perinthalmanna, Kerala inaugurated a Unit of National Service Scheme (NSS) at the Aligarh Muslim University Malappuram Centre, by hoisting the NSS flag. The NSS unit has been funded by the Kerala State NSS office, with an intake of 50 volunteers in the first year and another 50 volunteers in the coming year.

Mr Kathapuram highlighted the importance of social service and the role of NSS in inculcating pluralistic culture among students, while the guest of honour, Mr C Sukumaran, President, Elamkulam Panchayath assured all support from the Panchayath in NSS activities.

Mr Unnikrishnan D, District Youth Officer, Malappuram Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) extended all corporation to the NSS in its community services.

Earlier, Dr. Faisal KP, Director of the Centre and Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell welcomed the guests, while Dr. Raghul V Rajan, Programme Officer, NSS Unit extended a vote of thanks.

NSS volunteers, Nihal Muhammed and Afina SS, who won the second prize in the inter university debate competition organized by the Excise Department, Government of Kerala, were felicitated on this occasion.

Mr. Mohammad Ahazam Khan, Assistant Registrar, AMU Centre Malappuram delivered the felicitation address.

Later, a day-long orientation programme was also held for the first 50 NSS volunteers, with Prof. C. R. Ajith Sen, Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell, IHRD, Government of Kerala, as the resource person.
