Constitution Day observed at AMU
ALIGARH : The Constitution Day was observed with teachers and students at various schools, departments of studies and residential halls of the Aligarh Muslim University paying respect to the holy book of Indian Republic, the great citadel of democracy, by reading out the Preamble and paying rich tributes to the great minds that gathered at the Constituent Assembly to draft the Indian Constitution.
The Faculty of Law celebrated the day by unveiling the true copy of the original Constitution of India prepared by Ministry of Culture, Government of India, New Delhi, as part of ‘Constitution Day Celebration, 2023.
The chief guest, Mr. Sanjiv Kumar Singh, Additional District Judge, Aligarh, highlighted the importance of fundamental rights and duties, while the guest of honour, Prof. Nishat Fatima, University Librarian, Maulana Azad Library, emphasized the role of libraries to provide constitutional literacy to the masses.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Dean, Prof. MZM Nomani mentioned the significant events in the historical development of the Constitution, especially beginning from the Government of India Act, 1935 to the adoption of the Constitution in 1950.
The BALLB students, Aliya Sarfaraz Khan, Arham Khan, Fida Fathima K.K. amd Javed Alam discussed various aspects of the Constitution and its development.
Prof. Mohd. Ashraf, Chairman of the department, proposed the vote of thanks.
The students and faculty members at the Aligarh Muslim University Murshidabad Centre, West Bengal, observed the day with vigor and enthusiasm.
In a Poster-making competition on “India: The Mother of Democracy” and “Constitutional Aspirations vs Reality”, the team of Savra Parveen secured the first prize, while the teams of Vibha Singh and Saman Ateeq got the second and third prizes, respectively.
Aoun Ullah Khan, Gul Nigar and Saiba Khan got the first second and third prizes in the Slogan-writing competition on the theme “Constitution of India”. Ms. Shaila Mehmood and Dr. Masood Ahmad judged the events, respectively.
At a seminar on “The Constitution of India: Law of the Laws,” held to mark the occasion, Dr. Syed Atif Jilani, Unit Coordinator (MBA) welcomed the speakers and highlighted the importance of the occasion.
Mr. Akhlaqul Azam, Unit In-Charge (BALLB) underlined the role of the Constitution in developing nationalism among people and urged all to work for the fulfillment of the dreams of the makers of the constitution.
Dr. Rashid Usman Ansari explained the salient features of the Constitution.
A BALLB student, Saman Parween also spoke on the occasion.
Ahmad Saeed and Tuba Suhail conducted the programme, while Dr. Mohd Arif, Programme Coordinator, and Dr. Rasheed Ahmad extended a vote of thank.
The Preamble of the Constitution was read out to the audience and they took a pledge to preserve the constitution.
At the Begum Sultan Jahan Hall, an essay writing competition on the “Constitution of India appropriately justifies the honour of being the Supreme Law of the Land” was organized to mark the occasion.
Naba Naseem Khan won the first prize, Aqsa Mehak got the second prize and the third prize went to Hafsah Bano. The consolation prize were given to Rosy Perween and Aleema Nishat.
At the Department of Psychiatry, J.N. Medical College, the day was observed by the teachers, staff and students participating in the “ePledge” ceremony to upholding the values and principles enshrined in the Indian Constitution. They also read out the Preamble of the Constitution of India and affirmed their dedication to promoting mental health in a manner that aligns with the constitutional rights and duties of all individuals.
Prof. Veena Maheshwari, Chairman of the department, along with Prof. Rakesh Kumar Gaur, Dr. Deoshree Akhouri, Dr. Mohammed Reyazuddin, Dr. Jitendra Kumar and Dr. Faisal Shaan took part in the ePledge ceremony.
The Centre of Continuing and Adult Education and Extension marked the day with a commemorative lecture by Prof Asmer Beg, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, who underscored the significance of day as a reminder of the constitutional obligations to preserve the golden principles of socialism and secularism enshrined in the Preamble of the Constitution.
He emphasized the significance of developing a rational thinking in common people to maintain and preserve the justice, equality and liberty, which, in fact, form the spirit of the Constitution, and thus the republic of India.
Earlier, welcoming the guest speaker, Director of the Centre, Dr Shamim Akhtar urged the learners to think of their duties first before claiming their rights as it is the duty of one that ensures the right of the other.
At the Department of Linguistics, the Preamble to the constitution was read by the Chairman, Prof. M. J. Warsi to a gathering of faculty members, research scholar, students and non-teaching staff. He said that on this day we commemorate the adoption of the Indian Constitution on January 26, 1950.
The Department of Geology celebrated the day with Prof Rashid Umar, Chairman, reading out the Preamble of the Constitution and conducting a pledge to the students and staff fostering and reinforcing commitment to uphold the sanctity of the Constitution and safeguarding it by adopting its principles in life.
