Antimicrobial Awareness programme concludes

ALIGARH  : The four-day observance programme on Antimicrobial Awareness, organized by the Centre for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit, Aligarh Muslim University, in collaboration with the College of Nursing, under the DBT Government of India project and National Network Programme, sanctioned to Prof Asad U Khan, concluded with a valedictory function.

The chief guest, noted paediatrician, Prof S. Manazir Ali stressed the need for infection control and the containment of antimicrobial resistance in hospital settings, particularly in neonatal intensive care units. He underscored the importance of reducing the use of antibiotics in hospitals.

Earlier, in his introductory remarks, Prof Asad U Khan, Coordinator and convener, emphasized the significance of organizing poster designing, painting, and slogan writing competitions to raise awareness about the antimicrobial resistance. He announced prizes in various categories, and the winners received a modest cash prize along with a certificate of appreciation.

The programme was conducted by Ms Areeba Dilshad, while Prof Farah Azmi, Principal, College of Nursing, extended a vote of thanks.

Earlier, during the four-day programme, a Nukkad Natak was organized by the Nursing students and Prof Anwar Shahzad, Dr Vijay Laxmi Verma and Dr Saba Nasim judged the entries under the three competitions, poster, painting, and slogan writing.

At a Prof. Veena Maheshwari, Dean, Faculty of Medicine acknowledged the efforts to organize various programmes under the AMR week.

Dr. Ali Jafar Abedi, University Health Officer, urged for the responsible use of antibiotics and discussed the concept of antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

Dr. Saif Khan, Department of Periodontics and Community Dentistry, Dr. Z A Dental College, discussed issues of oral hygiene, oral microbiome, and the correlation between antibiotic usage and oral health.
