AMU research scholar attends international conference in Morocco

ALIGARH : Syeda Nada Qadri, a research scholar in the Department of West Asian and North African Studies, Aligarh Muslim University, presented a paper, titled “Education as a Counter-Extremism Tool in the Middle East: A Multidisciplinary Analysis” at the 3rd International Conference on Countering Violent Extremism held at the headquarters of the Islamic Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) in Rabat, Morocco on November 14-15.

Addressing the persistent issue of violent extremism in the Middle East, Ms.Qadri urged the concerned power blocs to influencing the region’s youth as a key de-radicalization strategy. She discussed the significance of primary and secondary level education in shaping youth perspectives, emphasizing the need for eliminating extremist content from textbooks and promoting religious tolerance and critical thinking.

She said that the primary objective of the conference was to convene experts, scholars, and practitioners worldwide to address the evolving challenges posed by violent extremism, with special focus on the pivotal role of knowledge, encompassing education, cultural insights, and strategic intelligence, in countering these threats.
