Heyo K. Kroemer Assumes Role as Chair of Board of Trustees at Technical University of Munich

The Board of Trustees of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) has elected Prof. Heyo K. Kroemer, the CEO of Charité, as its new chairman. Other new members elected to the supervisory body are Prof. Patrick Cramer, the President of the Max Planck Society, and Stefan Vilsmeier, the CEO of Brainlab AG.

The Board of Trustees is responsible for passing the TUM charter and the university’s development plan and for establishing degree programs. It is made up of 10 members from the TUM Senate along with 10 external members from the fields of science, business and politics.

Prof. Patrick Cramer, Prof. Heyo K. Kroemer and Stefan Vilsmeier have been appointed to the Board of Trustees for a four-year term. As chairman, Prof. Kroemer succeeds Prof. Otmar D. Wiestler, the President of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers, whose chairmanship is ending after two terms of office.

Heyo K. Kroemer was appointed CEO of Charité – Berlin University Medicine in 2019. Before that the pharmacologist served as chairman of the management board of the University Medical Center Göttingen and the Dean of the Medical School of the University of Greifswald, among other roles. Prof. Kroemer is a member of major academies and scientific societies, including the Leopoldina and the German National Academy of Science and Engineering.
