POSTECH PhD students Yeseul Kim (Department of Mechanical Engineering) and Yonghun Park (Department of Industrial and Management Engineering) were recently awarded the 2023 Talent Award of Korea. This accolade, hosted by the Ministry of Education and organized by the Korea Student Aid Foundation, serves as a recognition system for young talents who have demonstrated excellence in research and accomplishments across various domains, setting exemplary standards for society.
Yeseul Kim (advisor: Professor Junsuk Rho from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Chemical Engineering), gained widespread attention last year for her work on a dual meta-lens capable of switching shooting modes using light through a single lens. Her remarkable achievements include being recognized as an SPIE scholar in 2023 and receiving a gold medal at the ‘Nano Korea 2021’ symposium, contributing significantly to the advancement of nanotechnology.
Yonghun Park, (advisor: Professor Bong-Gyu Jang from the Department of Industrial and Management Engineering and the School of Convergence Science and Technology), is a member of the Financial Services Commission’s 2030 Advisory Board. This board is dedicated to advancing youth financial policy initiatives. Notably, Yonghun Park received recognition at the Mirae Asset Securities Big Data Festival in 2023 with an encouragement prize and clinched a bronze award at the Bank of Korea Monetary Policy Competition in 2022.
A total of 100 individuals, comprising 50 high school students and 50 college students and young adults, were honored with the Talent Award of Korea this year. This brings the cumulative count of awardees to 2,396 since the award’s inception in 2001. POSTECH proudly boasts two winners this year, building on the success of last year’s awardee, Joohoon Kim, PhD students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
