Two POSTECH Professors, Chulhong Kim and Ho-Jin Song, Honored as 2024 IEEE Fellows
Professor Chulhong Kim from the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Department of Convergence IT Engineering, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and the School of Convergence Science and Technology and Professor Ho-Jin Song from the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Department of Convergence IT Engineering at Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) have achieved a significant honor by being elected to the 2024 IEEE fellows.
Professor Chulhong Kim’s election to the IEEE fellow acknowledges his contributions to the development of clinical imaging devices and clinical trial research using photoacoustic and ultrasound technologies.
Professor Kim earned his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, and has been teaching students at POSTECH since 2013. Notably, he received the Presidential Award for Venture Innovation from the Ministry of SMEs and Startups in 2022. Furthermore, he was recognized as Scientist of the Month by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Research Foundation of Korea in December, 2021.
Professor Ho-Jin Song earned IEEE Fellow status for his research in developing ultra-high-frequency components for communication and sensing using terahertz (THz) waves, a key technology for sixth-generation mobile communication systems.
Professor Song, who holds master’s and doctoral degrees in electrical engineering from the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), joined the faculty of POSTECH in 2016. This year, he received the IEEE Microwave Best Paper Award. Additionally, Professor Song received the Best Industrial Paper Award at the IEEE MTT-S Symposium in 2016.
The IEEE stands as the world’s largest society for electrical, electronic, computer, and communications engineering, boasting nearly 400,000 members. Annually, the society recognizes the top 0.1 % of its members as fellows, a distinction based on seven criteria including individual research and technical achievements.
