Brock University Set to Host Its Inaugural Makerfest Event
The Brock Library’s Makerspace is bringing together makers from across Niagara for a handmade market with an innovative spin.
Brock’s first-ever Makerfest will highlight new and digital technologies on Thursday, March 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Rankin Family Pavilion.
“Maker festivals are becoming more common as public and academic libraries increasingly introduce communities to technology that wouldn’t otherwise be available,” says Makerspace Supervisor Derek Schneider.
Like a community craft fair, Brock’s Makerfest will showcase artisan vendors and exhibitors while also offering Makerspace tours, free demonstrations and workshops in laser cutting, 3D modelling and 3D printing. Attendees will also have a chance to make their own soldered pin to take home.
“This event seeks to strengthen and showcase as many different talents as possible,” says Makerspace Technician and Facilitator Zak Mason. “We also hope to inspire current and prospective students to learn more about how making can be incorporated into their educational and career pathways.”
Anyone interested in selling or exhibiting handmade goods at Makerfest can apply to be a vendor by emailing [email protected]. Applicants should include the skill or medium they work in, whether electricity is required for their booth and whether they need access to any Makerspace tools and equipment.
The event is free and open to the public and visitor parking information can be found on the Parking Services website. Vendor parking passes will be provided.
