AMU faculty members conduct a national level training
ALIGARH : Two faculty members, Prof. Neha Agrawal and Dr. Syed Amaan Ali, Department of Periodontia and Community Dentistry, Dr. Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College (ZADC), Aligarh Muslim University conducted a national level training and capacity building programme in tobacco cessation at the National Resource Centre for Oral Health and Tobacco Cessation (NRCOHTC), Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences, New Delhi recently. The training programme marked the conclusion of a National Oral Health Programme (NOHP), held under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, under the leadership of Prof Vikrant Mohanty (Programme Coordinator and Project Head, NRCOHTC).
The training was led by two distinguished faculties, Prof. Neha Agrawal, Nodal Officer, and Dr. Syed Amaan Ali, Assistant Professor, from the Public Health Division of the Department of Periodontia and Community Dentistry at Dr. Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College & Hospital, AMU, Aligarh.
Prof. Neha Agrawal, Nodal Officer, said that as a result of this comprehensive training, ZADC has emerged as a visible centre for tobacco cessation.
She said that the validity of the training has been extended up to February 23, 2026, which has been certified by the NOHP.
Dr. Syed Amaan Ali demonstrated knowledge and skills in this field by securing the second runner-up position in a quiz focused on scenario-based tobacco cessation intervention. He was also given the WHO manual on Tobacco Cessation Guidelines for Medical and Dental professionals.
Prof. R. K. Tewari, Principal, ZADC, said such training programmes help doctors keep abridged with the recent trends in tobacco cessation. He emphasized the importance of integrating tobacco cessation into healthcare practices.
Prof Vivek K Sharma, Chairperson of the department, congratulated the faculty members on successfully conducting and completing the training, which is an important step towards making the country tobacco-free.
