Workshop held on discrimination and harassment at workplace

ALIGARH : The second-semester students of Master of Human Resource Management (MHRM), in association with the Commerce Club, Department of Commerce, Aligarh Muslim University, organized a Workshop on “Addressing Discrimination and Harassment at Workplace” to raise awareness, provide insights, and facilitate discussion on combating discrimination and harassment in a professional set up.

In his address, the Training and Placement Officer (TPO), MHRM Programme and Convener of the workshop, Prof Nawab Ali Khan emphasized the importance of cultivating a culture of respect, dignity and equity at workplaces. He highlighted the significance of the workshop in empowering individuals and organizations to address and mitigate instances of discrimination and harassment effectively.

Dr. Naghma Azhar, Incharge, Commerce Club, introduced the distinguished guests, Advocate Zakawat Sultan, Advocate Akmal Azhar (practicing advocates of Aligarh District Court) and Mr Syed Fayyaz Ali, Labor and Employment Law Counsel, LG Electronics.

Advocate Zakawat Sultan and Advocate Akmal Azhar shared insights into the legal frameworks, precedents, and mechanisms available to address discrimination and harassment in the workplace and shed light on the importance of understanding rights and legal recourse, fostering supportive environments conducive to reporting and addressing such issues.

Mr Syed Fayyaz Ali provided insights into the practical aspect of the legal framework for this purpose, and shared best practices from the industry, emphasizing the crucial role of organizational policies, training programmes and proactive measures for preventing and addressing workplace discrimination and harassment.

MHRM students, including Aisha Tanveer, Shalu Kumari, Saniya Yusuf Siddiqui, Kaynat Nausheen and Nashrah, played a key role in organizing the programme.
