Kyushu University Holds Donation Ceremony to Mark Establishment of the Tokuo Fujii Research Fund
In a donation ceremony held on December 20, 2023, at Ito Campus, Mr. Fujii formally presented his donation to President Tatsuro Ishibashi.
Mr. Fujii expressed his concern over the declining number of Japanese Nobel laureates, urging his alma mater, Kyushu University, to lead the charge. He emphasized that the fund is not for ordinary research and development but specifically to support endeavors worthy of the Nobel Prize.
President Ishibashi expressed his gratitude, presenting Mr. Fujii with a letter of appreciation from the Kyushu University Fund.
The Tokuo Fujii Research Fund, established through this donation, aims to produce Nobel laureates affiliated with Kyushu University by supporting innovative research using dividends from the donated shares.
In the past, Mr. Fujii has also provided tremendous support for the completion of the Fujii Gallery and the operation of Fujii Hall on Ito Campus, the latter of which houses the Self-Access Learning Center (SALC) for international students.
After the ceremony, Mr. Fujii visited the Fujii Gallery to see a newly installed commemorative plaque, followed by a viewing of the current exhibitions.

A new approach to producing Nobel laureates at Kyushu University
The Tokuo Fujii Research Fund was established with a donation from Mr. Tokuo Fujii, an alumnus of Kyushu University, to pursue his ambitious goal of producing a Nobel Prize winner affiliated with Kyushu University.
In accordance with Mr. Fujii’s wishes, the university dedicates this endowment to aiding our researchers in their Nobel Prize aspirations. The hope is to foster ambitious researchers capable of becoming world leaders in their field, whose innovative work lays the foundation for new value creation and has Nobel prize-winning potential.
Donor: Mr. Tokuo Fujii (Graduated from the School of Law in 1964. Chief Advisor and the founder of Ifuji Sangyo Co., Ltd.)
Donation: 200,000 shares of Ifuji Sangyo Co., Ltd.
