New Chairperson at the Department of English
ALIGARH : Prof Shaheena Tarannum, Department of English, Aligarh Muslim University has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Department of English for a period of three years, with effect from May 14, 2024.
Prof Tarannum has been engaged in teaching and research for more than three decades.She has published two books, “Understanding John Donne” and “Brechtian Verfremdung: A Study of Sean O’ Casey’s Select Plays,” and more than 10 research papers in the journals of national and international repute.
She has attended and presented papers at conferences and seminars and completed a research project, “Representation of Muslim Women in Post-Independent Indian Fiction in English,” of UGC as Co-Principal Investigator in 2005.
Prof Tarannum has been a member to various reputed organizations including the International Federation for Theatre Research and Shakespeare Society of Eastern India, edited and reviewed the Journal of Faculty of Arts and served as the Presiding Officer, Internal Complaints Committee, AMU.
She has received several awards and honours for her distinguished services, including Dr Zakir Hussain Foundation Woman Pride Award, Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund Award and Mumtaz Jahan Haider Memorial Gold Medal, AMU.
She takes pride in teaching various topics of English literature, including Modern Drama, Theatre Studies, Metaphysical Poetry and Women Writings.
