Ural Federal University Collaborates with UAE Scientists to Create Psychological Dictionary

The Ural Federal University and the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination (United Arab Emirates) have signed an agreement on the development of the first educational dictionary of psychological terms. According to the creators, the new dictionary will become an important tool both for the popularization of psychology and for the development of relations between Russia and the United Arab Emirates.

“Our organization believes in the prospects of cooperation with the Ural Federal University, which serves common interests and goals. UrFU is our strategic partner. We are interested in working in the field of care and rehabilitation of people with disabilities for the benefit of all members of our organization. The joint creation of a new dictionary is a big step in this direction”, notes His Excellency Abdullah Abudalee Al Humaidan, General Secretary of the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination.

The dictionary will cover all areas of psychology and provide a wide range of information on terms – about 4500 in total are planned. It will be a reliable tool for students, teachers, researchers, and all those interested in psychology to master psychological terminology in Russian and Arabic. The dictionary is expected to be published by the end of 2024.

“This is important and interesting work because, for joint scientific research and practical activities with colleagues from the UAE, a correct understanding of terminology in different languages is of great importance. Scientists at our institute have great experience in such work. This will be a synthesis of the work of psychologists, philologists, and linguists. We are interested in developing this cooperation in the interest of people who have the determination to live, to realize themselves, and to make themselves known in spite of all difficulties”, says Elvira Symanyuk, Director of the Ural Institute of Humanities.

Today, more than 20 employees of the Sheikh Zayed Foundation received certificates for professional development courses in psychology during their visit to UrFU. The three-month courses on “Brain Development and Neurocognitive Functions in Childhood” were delivered in an online format. The guests also visited the True Vision exhibition and several laboratories at the university. According to Abdullah Abudalee Al Humaidan, art therapy is crucial for people with determination, and there are already plans for a joint exhibition.
