UrFU Alumni Association Opens New Representative Office in Haikou, China

A representative office of the Chinese Alumni Association of UPI, USU and UrFU was established in Haikou on the basis of the Hainan College of Economics and Business. This was the beginning of the university delegation’s visit to China. Victor Koksharov, the rector of UrFU, welcomed the gathered alumni of the university.

“We highly appreciate China’s openness to Russia and readiness for cooperation, including in the sphere of personnel training, development of science, education and culture. One example of such cooperation was the establishment of a representative office of our university’s alumni association in Beijing in 2014, and now we are expanding the boundaries. To date, UrFU has trained more than 1,200 professionals for China, many of whom have achieved high government positions and public recognition”, noted the Rector.

The participants of the meeting approved the rules of the association and elected Zheng Weijie, a senior student of the Ural Institute of Humanities, winner of the Tourism Innovation Contest, Free Trade Port of South China Division, winner and runner-up of the Translation Contest, Internet Innovation Contest and Entrepreneurship Contest.

“Today is a historic event – the founding of the Haikou chapter of the association. Alumni are the honor and pride of every university. The spiritual bond between alumni and the university is an inexhaustible source of development. Today, we are initiating several projects at once. First of all, we are creating a database of Ural University graduates living and working in China. We will organize lectures and master classes of famous alumni. It is very important to facilitate the organization of internships and targeted training for our young people on behalf of Chinese companies, as well as the adaptation of students who go to study in Russia”, said the alumna.

Today more than 1500 students from China are studying at the UrFU. Fifty Chinese universities are partners of the Ural Federal University in various fields. Scientists cooperate most closely in the fields of materials science, petroleum engineering, physics and astronomy, chemistry, electrical engineering and electronics, environmental sciences, mathematics, mechanics, and computer science. There are 15 joint educational programs.

During the next three days, the UrFU delegation will hold working meetings with representatives of Rossotrudnichestvo in Beijing, symposiums, and seminars, and sign cooperation agreements with Beijing Normal University and Beijing Institute of Technology. The main issues are the organization of training in the format of network educational programs, joint training of graduate students, research in the field of human welfare, demography, and others.
