Technical University of Denmark: Startup Day Celebrates DTU’s Thriving Innovation Environment
Confetti rain
Back in the auditorium, Marianne Thellersen hosts the annual award show, where some of the most promising start-ups are honoured for their work.
One of the winners is Uterome Biomedical, which—like Uvisa—focuses on women’s health. More specifically, they are developing a method for diagnosing the disease endometriosis, which causes severe abdominal pain and which, according to sundhed.dk, affects 6-10 per cent of all young women. Behind the start-up are three Master’s students at DTU who tell us what the day means to them:
“We get a unique opportunity to expand our network and gain good pitch experience. Among other things, we have just talked to a bank representative. At some point, we need to have a company registration, so it’s really cool to get an experienced contact so you know where to start,” says Helena Højsted Eriksen, one of the co-founders of the start-up.
A total of four awards will be presented. In turn, the winners are introduced with a reason for why they receive the award. Afterwards, they are called to the main stage to receive a symbol of the award and a big round of applause from the audience.
The day ends in a rain of confetti, where there is time to form the final connections before everyone goes their separate ways—many with new contacts.
